Senior Process Safety Engineer

Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of&nbsp;enabling human life on Mars.</p></div><p><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><strong>SENIOR PROCESS SAFETY ENGINEER</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">The SpaceX Bastrop Environmental Health &amp; Safety team is seeking a highly driven engineer to establish process safety parameters across a variety of cutting-edge technologies and manufacturing processes. A successful engineer in this role will thrive in a high-paced collaborative environment, establishing themselves as a process safety SME with key stakeholders.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES:</strong></span></p> <ul> <li style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) of advanced chemical systems and recommend controls to manage risks as low as reasonably practicable</span></li> <li style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Evaluate equipment overpressure/overtemperature scenarios and reaction hazards</span></li> <li style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Perform/oversee Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), as well as risk assessments and hazard analyses on complex process equipment</span></li> <li style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Implement and field validate safety critical instruments and interlocks during Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs)</span></li> <li style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Implement a Process Safety Management (PSM) program and ensure compliance with all pillars of PSM</span></li> </ul> <p><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><strong>BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:</strong></span></p> <ul> <li style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Bachelor’s degree in process safety or chemical engineering</span></li> <li style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">5+ years’ experience with design and commissioning chemical systems</span></li> </ul> <p><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><strong>PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:</strong></span></p> <ul> <li style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Master’s degree in chemical engineering</span></li> <li style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Ability to read and interpret P&amp;IDs, equipment datasheets, instrumentation diagrams, etc.</span></li> <li style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Experience with reviewing safety control circuits and calculating safety performance levels</span></li> <li style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Experience with design and commissioning of process systems for hydrofluoric acid, strong acids and bases, pyrophoric and flammable gases</span></li> <li style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Advanced understanding of industry codes, standards, and practices such as ASME, NFPA, ANSI, IBC/IFC, RAGAGEP, etc.</span></li> <li style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Knowledge of quality tools such as lean manufacturing principles, statistical process control, root cause analysis and corrective action, process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA), control plans, and various problem-solving approaches</span></li> <li style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills</span></li> <li style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Enthusiasm for the missions of enabling global internet connectivity and multi-planetary life</span></li> </ul> <p><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><strong>ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:</strong></span></p> <ul> <li style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">This is&nbsp;<u>not</u>&nbsp;a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Bastrop, TX area</span></li> <li style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Position occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed</span></li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p><div class="content-conclusion"><p><strong>ITAR REQUIREMENTS:</strong></p> <ul> <li>To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
