Question 1

What types of engineering roles are available at hyper-growth companies?

Accepted Answer

Hyper-growth companies hire across the full engineering spectrum: backend engineers (Python, Go, Java, Rust), frontend engineers (React, TypeScript), full-stack developers, DevOps and site reliability engineers, platform engineers, mobile engineers (iOS, Android), and embedded systems engineers. The most in-demand roles at scale-ups typically combine strong fundamentals with experience shipping production systems.

Question 2

What experience level do hyper-growth companies typically hire for in engineering?

Accepted Answer

Most hyper-growth companies hire across all levels — from junior engineers (1–3 years) to senior engineers (5+ years) and staff or principal engineers (8+ years). Senior and staff-level roles are the most common opening, as companies at Series B and beyond need engineers who can work with minimal oversight and mentor growing teams.

Question 3

How do engineering salaries at hyper-growth companies compare to FAANG?

Accepted Answer

Hyper-growth companies typically offer competitive base salaries (often 80–95% of FAANG levels) combined with meaningful equity packages that can significantly exceed total compensation at larger companies if the company achieves a successful exit. Many also offer flexible remote work, faster career progression, and the opportunity to work on problems at a scale that would take years to reach at a larger organisation.
