Question 1

What Sales & GTM roles are most commonly available at hyper-growth companies?

Accepted Answer

The most common roles are Account Executive (AE) — responsible for closing new business — and Sales Development Representative (SDR) or Business Development Representative (BDR), who generate and qualify pipeline. Solutions Architects and Solutions Consultants are in high demand at companies selling complex technical products, bridging the gap between sales and engineering to demonstrate value to technical buyers. Sales Enablement Managers who build playbooks, training programmes, and tooling for fast-growing sales teams are increasingly common at Series C and beyond.

Question 2

What on-target earnings (OTE) can I expect in a Sales & GTM role at a hyper-growth company?

Accepted Answer

OTE varies significantly by role and company stage. SDR/BDR roles at Series B companies typically offer $60K–$90K OTE (50/50 base/variable split). Mid-market AE roles range from $150K–$250K OTE. Enterprise AE roles at well-funded companies can reach $300K–$500K OTE. Solutions Architects and Solutions Consultants typically earn $150K–$280K OTE, with a smaller variable component (20–30%) than pure AE roles. Equity is an additional component — early GTM hires at pre-IPO companies can receive meaningful option grants that significantly increase total compensation if the company achieves a successful exit.

Question 3

What CRM and sales tools do hyper-growth companies typically use?

Accepted Answer

Salesforce is the dominant CRM at Series B and beyond, though some earlier-stage companies use HubSpot. Outreach and Salesloft are the most common sales engagement platforms. Gong or Chorus for call recording and coaching. LinkedIn Sales Navigator for prospecting. ZoomInfo or Apollo for contact data enrichment. Familiarity with this stack — particularly Salesforce and Outreach — is expected for most AE and SDR roles at hyper-growth companies.
