The Financial Investment Adviser. provides financial and investment advisory support to the Small Business Division (SBD) by analysing portfolio performance, assessing credit and investment risks, and recommending strategies to optimise financial outcomes.

The role involves applying financial modelling, risk assessment frameworks, and market insights to support lending and investment decisions. The analyst advises on portfolio performance, risk mitigation, and financial strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives, customer needs, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide financial and investment analysis and advice to support small business lending and portfolio performance

  • Analyse financial data, credit performance metrics, and market trends to inform risk and investment strategies

  • Assess credit and financial risk exposures, identifying early warning indicators and recommending mitigation actions

  • Monitor portfolio performance and advise on restructuring, recovery strategies, and risk-adjusted decision making

  • Apply and support risk management frameworks aligned with organisational risk appetite and financial objectives

  • Prepare financial reports, forecasts, and investment insights for senior management

  • Translate complex financial and credit data into actionable recommendations

  • Collaborate with Credit, Product, Operations, and Technology teams to embed financial and risk strategies into business processes

  • Support development and optimisation of financial models, including probability of default (PD) models and risk-based decision tools

  • Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, financial regulations, and governance frameworks

  • Credit, risk, and data analytics teams

  • Customer solutions and portfolio management teams

  • Product, operations, and technology stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field

  • Relevant professional qualifications (e.g. CFA, CPA, or similar) are highly regarded

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in financial analysis, credit risk, investment advisory, or portfolio management

  • Experience in small business lending, commercial finance, or investment environments preferred

  • Demonstrated experience in financial modelling, risk analysis, and portfolio performance management

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of financial analysis, investment principles, and risk management frameworks

  • Ability to interpret financial statements, cash flow data, and credit information to inform decisions

  • Advanced analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and financial modelling tools

  • Ability to identify financial risks and recommend strategic mitigation actions

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills

  • High attention to detail and ability to manage complex datasets

  • Understanding of financial services regulatory and compliance requirements
