Health & Safety Technician

<p class="p1">Figure is an AI robotics company developing autonomous general-purpose humanoid robots. The goal of the company is to ship humanoid robots with human level intelligence. Its robots are engineered to perform a variety of tasks in the home and commercial markets. Figure is headquartered in San Jose, CA.</p> <p>We are seeking a hands-on Health &amp; Safety Technician to join our team on a contract basis, with the potential to convert to a full-time role. This is a field-forward position ideal for someone who thrives on day-to-day operational safety work rather than primarily desk-based tasks. You will be the boots-on-the-ground resource ensuring our facilities are safe, compliant, and properly organized from a safety standpoint.</p> <p>Core Responsibilities</p> <p>Facility Labeling &amp; Signage<br>• Install, maintain, and audit required safety signage throughout the facility (hazard&nbsp;warnings, emergency exits, restricted areas, PPE requirements).<br>• Ensure all chemical containers, storage areas, and equipment are properly labeled per&nbsp;OSHA and GHS/HazCom standards.<br>• Conduct regular walkthroughs to identify missing, damaged, or non-compliant labels and signage and take corrective action promptly.</p> <p>Hazardous Waste Management<br>• Manage the day-to-day handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste in&nbsp;compliance with EPA, state, and local regulations.<br>• Maintain satellite and central accumulation areas, ensuring proper labeling, containment,&nbsp;and recordkeeping.<br>• Coordinate with licensed waste disposal vendors and prepare manifests and shipping&nbsp;documentation.<br>• Track hazardous waste generation volumes and maintain compliance logs.</p> <p>Incident Management<br>• Serve as the first responder and point of contact for workplace safety incidents and near-misses.<br>• Conduct thorough incident investigations to determine root causes and develop&nbsp;corrective action plans.<br>• Document and report incidents in accordance with OSHA recordkeeping requirements&nbsp;(300/300A logs).<br>• Follow up on corrective actions to ensure timely resolution and prevention of recurrence.</p> <p>Safety Inspections &amp; Audits<br>• Perform routine facility safety inspections, identifying hazards and non-conformances&nbsp;and tracking them to resolution.<br>• Conduct fire extinguisher, eyewash station, first aid kit, and emergency equipment&nbsp;checks and ensure all are in proper working order.<br>• Support and prepare for external regulatory inspections and audits (OSHA, EPA, local&nbsp;fire department).<br>• Maintain accurate inspection records and checklists.</p> <p>General EHS Support<br>• Assist in the development and delivery of safety training for employees (new hire&nbsp;orientation, equipment-specific, emergency response).<br>• Support the implementation and upkeep of safety programs and written plans (IIPP,&nbsp;HazCom, Emergency Action Plan, etc.).<br>• Help maintain the EHS documentation system, ensuring records are current and&nbsp;organized.<br>• Collaborate with facilities, operations, and engineering teams on safety-related projects&nbsp;and improvements.</p> <p>Requirements<br>Education &amp; Certifications<br>• High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field&nbsp;is a plus. Equivalent combination of certifications and hands-on experience strongly<br>considered.<br>• OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification and/or OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER&nbsp;certification strongly preferred.</p> <p>Experience<br>• 3–5 years of hands-on experience in a health, safety, or environmental role, ideally in a&nbsp;manufacturing, R&amp;D, robotics, or technology hardware environment.<br>• Demonstrated experience with hazardous waste management, safety labeling/signage&nbsp;programs, and conducting safety inspections.<br>• Experience with incident investigation and OSHA recordkeeping.</p> <p>Knowledge &amp; Skills<br>• Working knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards (29 CFR 1910), EPA&nbsp;hazardous waste regulations (RCRA), and applicable state/local regulations.<br>• Familiarity with GHS/HazCom labeling requirements.<br>• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and document hazards accurately.<br>• Effective written and verbal communication skills; able to interact clearly with employees&nbsp;at all levels.<br>• Self-motivated and able to manage tasks independently with minimal supervision.<br>• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).</p> <p>Personal Attributes<br>• Proactive and action-oriented — you don’t wait to be asked to fix a hazard.<br>• Comfortable with physical, hands-on work (walking the floor, installing signs, managing&nbsp;waste areas).<br>• Strong sense of ownership and accountability for safety outcomes.<br>• Team player who can also work independently and prioritize effectively.<br>• Discreet and professional when handling sensitive safety or incident information.</p> <p class="p1">The US base hourly rate for this position is between $45-$55 per hour.</p> <p class="p1">The pay offered for this position may vary based on several individual factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include additional components/benefits depending on the specific role.
