About the Role

<p>Req: FEQ427R187<br>Location: Tokyo, Japan</p> <p>We are looking for a <strong>Director, Field Engineering</strong> in Japan to join our world-class, hyper‑growth organization. In this role, you will lead first-line Managers and teams of pre-sales <strong>Solutions Architects</strong>, focusing on complex, strategic accounts and driving our expansion in Japan across <strong>manufacturing and automotive</strong>.<strong><br></strong></p> <p>You will partner closely with Sales to grow product consumption, while coaching sales and pre‑sales teams to operate as a single, high-performing unit. You are adept at articulating complex, business value‑focused solutions, supporting sophisticated enterprise sales cycles, and building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders in large Japanese corporations. This role reports to the <strong>Technical GM – Japan</strong>.</p> <h3><strong>The impact you will have</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Hire and manage <strong>first-line Managers</strong> and a growing team of technical pre‑sales <strong>Solutions Architects</strong>.</li> <li>Build a highly collaborative culture within a rapid‑growth team, embodying and promoting Databricks’ <strong>customer‑obsessed</strong>, <strong>team‑oriented</strong>, and <strong>diverse</strong> culture.</li> <li>Increase the <strong>return on investment</strong> of SA involvement in sales cycles by ensuring the right technical coverage and engagement model.</li> <li>Build <strong>long-term, trust-based relationships</strong> with customers; understand the local market landscape and trends, and report on forces that shape the strategic direction of accounts.</li> <li>Champion a <strong>solution- and value-based selling</strong> motion across Field Engineering.</li> <li>Demonstrate a strong understanding of business needs and revenue potential across your territory.</li> <li>Build the <strong>Databricks brand in Japan</strong> in partnership with the Marketing and Sales teams.</li> </ul> <h3><strong>What we look for</strong></h3> <ul> <li><strong>Second-line leadership</strong> experience (manager of managers) leading teams of <strong>20+</strong> individuals.</li> <li>Demonstrated success in <strong>high‑growth enterprise software</strong> pre‑sales, with senior‑level tenure at a reputable software company and <strong>deep experience in the Japan market</strong>.</li> <li>Proven ability to elevate customer engagement, with a track record of closing <strong>large, complex transactions</strong> and scaling high‑growth customers.</li> <li>Strong leadership skills to <strong>influence, develop, and empower</strong> Managers and ICs to achieve ambitious objectives as a team.</li> <li>Proven record of <strong>transformational impact</strong> and delivery of measurable <strong>customer value</strong>.</li> <li>Track record of building strong ecosystems of customer relationships and cross‑functional partnerships (<strong>Sales, Engineering, Marketing, Customer Success</strong>, etc.).</li> <li>Experience supporting <strong>complex strategic accounts</strong> generating <strong>$5M+ ARR</strong>.</li> <li>Deep interest in and understanding of <strong>data‑driven decision making, AI, and cloud software models</strong>.</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to implement <strong>scalable processes</strong> for technical field teams to improve efficiency and execution quality.</li> <li><strong>Bachelor’s degree</strong> in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.</li> <li><strong>Fluent Japanese</strong> required; <strong>business‑level English</strong> strongly preferred.</li> </ul> <p>​​</p><div class="content-conclusion"><p><strong>About Databricks</strong></p> <p><span style="font-family: arial, sans-serif;">Databricks is the data and AI company.
